About Flying Skirts

Flying Skirts is Gwen Heckeroths' one women company newly located in the Redwoods of Mendocino. Thanks to all my faithful web customers I have been able to expand and pick my favorite place in the world to live and work: The picture above is my water tower warehouse! I've been designing and sewing costuming to the dance community for more than a decade now!

I guess you could say Flying Skirts was started when my mother made matching mother/daughter "Gypsy skirts" when I was 6 or so- Three tiers, full enough to twirl, and my favorite garment of all time, I would have worn it every day if Mom would have let me.

Over the years I have enjoyed a continuing passion for creating clothing using color, motion, and texture. I have had the exciting experience of shaping Tribal style costuming at its beginnings, creating the Ten Yard three tiered skirt, the brocade banded Spinning Skirt, and multi patterned Gypsy Skirt that have become generic terms in the Tribal dance community! My greatest delight is to encourage play and creativity in grown women using that old familiar childhood tool "playing dress-up" and its deeper aspect of enrobing to invoke creativity and the Goddess within.
